This History primary resource gives pupils an overview of the Anglo-Saxon period in British History. When did the Anglo-Saxons come to Britain? How did these Germanic tribes spread their power? What kingdoms did the Anglo-Saxons create?

Pupils will learn about the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons in Britain, and the changes and influences they brought with them.

The teaching resource can be used as an introduction to, and overview of, the Anglo-Saxons. It can be used as a printed handout for each pupil to identify and highlight key facts, or for display on the interactive whiteboard for whole class tasks.

Activity: Ask the children to use the information in the comic and their own research to draw a map of Anglo Saxon Britain, marking of the counties and who lived there (i.e. ‘Angles’, ‘West Saxons’, etc.). Pupils could research the mythical tale of King Arthur and make their own comic strip telling this story.
