This spring, two beautiful snow leopards will be welcomed into their specially designed new home at Chester Zoo – and guess what? Your awesome artwork could be on display there with them…

Snow leopards in the wild are in trouble habitat loss, poaching and conflict with farmers mean their population is declining, fast. One of the biggest threats that will affect them is climate change. Sadly, their snowy Himalayan habitat is warming at THREE TIMES the global average

But Chester Zoo want to give these big cats a brighter future. Right now, they’re busy recreating the big cats’ rugged mountainous home at the zoo. And When the new residents move in, it’s hoped they’ll have cubs and will help save the species from extinction. Epic!

The competition

We want you to create an amazing snow leopard poster that inspires people to take action on climate change! Draw or paint a snow leopard (or leopards!) and choose one of the pledges below to add to your poster in bold letters.

The pledges

  • – REDUCE FOOD WASTE: Make a recipe with leftover ingredients
  • – WALK OR CYCLE: Leave the car at home on short journeys
  • – AVOID FLYING: Find a different mode of transport next time you plan to take a flight
  • – TURN OFF RADIATORS IN EMPTY ROOMS: Don’t waste energy heating rooms you’re not using
  • – EAT MORE PLANT-BASED MEALS: Eating less meat reduces carbon emissions
  • – SWITCH OFF DEVICES AT THE PLUG: This uses less energy at home

Poster Design Tips!

TIP #1: Plan your design on scrap paper before making your final poster.

TIP #2: Think about what materials you’d like to use to make your poster. Will you use paints, coloured pencils or pens, or do a collage

TIP #3: Make sure your chosen pledge is bold and easy to read

TIP #4: The snow leopard should take centre stage. Look at the poster ideas above for inspiration, or find more photos online.

TIP #5: Keep your design simple. Less clutter = more impact

TIP #6: Test your design’s impact by looking at it from across the room. Is the message clear?

The Prizes

The winning poster will go on display in the snow leopard enclosure at Chester Zoo – and you and your family will get to go on a trip to see it and the snow leopards! Cool, right? You’ll even get £50 to spend on food and drink at the zoo.

The winner and nine runners-up will all get their posters featured in the April 2024 issue of Nat Geo Kids magazine. Plus, all ten winners will receive cute snow leopard plushies
