This primary resource gives children an opportunity to design and make an eco-friendly, colourful bookmark.

Pupils will be challenged to follow instructions to make and design their own bookmark from old newspaper, old tights, glitter, paints, food colouring and a wire coat hanger in this National Geographic Kids’ Art primary resource sheet. As a fun, extra activity, they will also be shown how to make a musical rainstick from card, paper, dried rice or seeds, and paint.

The teaching resource can be used as a printed handout for instruction in class time, or for display on the interactive whiteboard.

Activity: Ask the children to follow the instructions to make a bookmark for their favourite book.  The design they choose could be based on the book’s theme and characters. Once finished, get the pupils to present their bookmark to the class, explaining their book of choice and the design of their craft.
