This Art primary resource gives children the opportunity to make their own Christmas crackers and tree decorations.

Pupils will be challenged to follow instructions to make their own Christmas crafts (Christmas crackers, paper baubles, card stars and festive flowers) and experiment with their own creative ideas and designs. They will also get five top tips on how to have an eco-friendly Christmas.

The teaching resource can be used as a printed handout for instruction in class time, or for display on the interactive whiteboard.

Activity: Ask the children to complete the tasks (or a selection of the tasks), experimenting with their own designs and style. They can be as creative as possible, decorating their designs with different materials, colours and embellishments (such as sequins, glitter, buttons, feathers).

To incorporate the eco-friendly element in their work, pupils could make and decorate their crafts using all kinds of recycled materials – card, crisp packets, bottle tops, used wrapping paper, etc.
