Real-life ‘Hogs!

Sonic and Shadow are hedgehogs with superpowers. But did you know that real-life hedgehogs have amazing abilities, too?

• – Hedgehogs are covered in 7,000 sharp spines that protect them from predators. The pointy prickles are made of keratin – the same material that makes human hair and fingernails.
• – European ‘hogs hibernate each November, snoozing through the cold winter weather. Amazingly, they can slow their breathing down to just a few breaths per hour. Wow!
• – The 30cm-long ‘hogs can walk up to 2km each night in search of beetles, earwigs, worms and other creepy-crawlies to eat.
• – Hardy hedgehogs can also swim, climb and run.
• – Their top speed is 9kmph. Zoom!
