Wild South Africa | 3, 10 and 17 September | 6 p.m.
Between the pounding, wild waves on the West Coast and the tropical shores of the East, our country has a world of diversity. We live in a land of striking geography and extreme climates – that’s why our natural world is full of surprises! We have surfing sea snails, penguins on beaches and a unique chameleon that gives birth to live young.
South Africa is home to the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhinoceros) and to big numbers! Within our borders are 22,000 plant species. The Cape Floristic Kingdom has 8,600, of which 6,000 are indigenous. Table Mountain National Park alone has more species than the whole of the United Kingdom!
Snakes in the City 4 | 4, 11, 18 and 25 September | 6 p.m.
Simon Keys is not an ordinary snake handler: after growing up in London where he didn’t have to deal with much wildlife, he moved to Durban. Things changed for him in Snake City!
Together with his herpetologist partner, Siouxsie Gillett, he rushes around town rescuing deadly snakes and helping locals who’ve found a black mamba in their wardrobe or a cobra in the bathroom!
Mission Critical: New Wave Warriors | 30 September | 6 p.m.
With so much bad news about how climate change, pollution and overfishing are destroying marine habitats, it’s easy to get discouraged. Is there hope? Luckily, yes. This is the story of innovators, photographers, adventurers and scientists who are taking great risks to protect the oceans.
Psst! Don’t miss World Rhino Day:
Friday 22 September from 2.51 p.m.
