Discover the inspirational treasures of Ancient Egypt at Young V&A in Bethnal Green – now open until 2 November 2025!

Making Egypt

Guided by Egyptian gods, you’ll embark on a fascinating journey through the ancient past to modern day, exploring Ancient Egypt’s creativity and how it continues to influence art, design and popular culture today – from video games and comic books to films, jewellery and more!

Beginning at sunrise on the River Nile, you’ll travel through the show investigating three themes: Storytelling, Communicating and Making. Let’s take a closer look

Storytelling

Learn about Ancient Egypt’s major myths – stories used to explain natural events, the origins of life and more! Take a quiz to work out which Egyptian god you’re most like! And check out this 4,000-year-old model of a wooden funerary boatplaced in a tomb to help transport the dead to the afterlife!

Communicating

Ancient Egyptians invented visual languages to tell their stories – like hieroglyphics. In this part of the exhibition, try your hand at deciphering symbols and pictures, and explore the meanings of colours!

Making

Check out the techniques, materials and skills that Ancient Egyptians used to create their incredible jewellery, pottery, ornaments and buildings. Then discover modern artworks, games and toys inspired by Egyptian art and architecture – like this LEGO Pyramid of Giza!

Young V&A is part of the V&A family of museums dedicated to the power of creativity. Young V&A is a museum sparking creativity now and for the future, with spaces to imagine, play and design. Find us on Cambridge Heath Road, London, E2 9PA.
